At McCalla Dental, we are very experienced in dealing with patients who are fearful of dental treatment. Even if you have experienced uncomfortable or painful dental treatment in the past, we can use IV Sedation Dentistry to help you relax and comfortably obtain the treatment that you need.
With IV Sedation dentistry, you will relax, as if you are sleeping, and be comfortable throughout your treatment. You'll be sedated just enough to be relaxed and in control, but without experiencing any pain.
Dr. Nitin Chhabra will safely put you to sleep while your dentistry is completed.
At McCalla Dental, we are lucky to have Board Certified Anesthesiologist Nitin Chhabra as our Anesthesiology Consultant. Dr. Chhabra grew up in Birmingham, and has enjoyed a personal and professional relationship with Drs. Poczatek and Dr. Gray for over 15 years.
Over the last year, we have worked to provide a comfortable, pleasant, pain free, and safe dental experience for our patients, utilizing IV sedation. By having such a unique working experience and collaboration, we are able to treat patients in the office setting, rather than sending them to a hospital or outpatient surgery center.
Dr. Chhabra will monitor you constantly during your IV sedation.
IV Sedation is the most preferred and predictable method of sedation where deep sedation is desired, and requires specialized training and certification to be able to administer. With IV Sedation, medications are administered directly into the blood stream. They take affect almost immediately. Because you are constantly monitored throughout your treatment, the doctor can easily add more medication if it is needed.
Before Dr. Chhabra begins, he will answer any questions you may have. You will be maintained in a comfortable, dazed, painless, extremely relaxed yet conscious state, while our doctors works on your teeth.
The IV contains an anti-anxiety medication and is adjusted so that you are awake just enough to follow directions. Your vital signs (breathing, heart rate etc…) are monitored the entire time you are under. When you wake up after the work is done, you are a little "dazed" and remember nothing. When you are fully awake, you need someone to help you out to the vehicle, and drive you home.
IV sedation dentistry is not designed for everyone, but it can be an excellent solution for adults who:
Our Operating Room includes state-of-the-art heart monitoring and emergency equipment. Pulse oximetry, BP and continuous EKG monitoring are routinely utilized to ensure your safety.
At McCalla, we understand. We'll do everything that we can to make sure that you are comfortable, and we aren't satisfied with your treatment unless you are.
Please come in and talk to us. We will be glad to work with you to make sure that you can get the treatment you need.
