Dr. Gray was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He is a graduate of Birmingham-Southern College and the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. He completed an additional three years of study as a Prosthodontic Resident at UAB School of Dentistry.
Dr. Gray has been on part-time faculty at the UAB School of Dentistry in the Comprehensive Care Department since 2007. He enjoys giving time and effort back to an institution that has been so personally influential. Presenting continuing education and collaborating with other dentists in the area keep him busy as well.
Continuing a Family Tradition
Dr. Gray's career as a prosthodontist carries on a proud family tradition of dental excellence that dates back nearly 60 years.
Dr. Gray's father, Jordan Gray, is the founder and owner of Gray Dental Laboratory, a local facility that he has operated for more than 30 years. Jordan fabricates many types of dental restorations by hand, including veneers, aesthetic crowns, implant prosthesis, and hybrid alloy bars. Dr. Gray enjoys working closely with his father and the high-quality products from his laboratory.
Dr. Gray states that "such a close working relationship with my father and constant reliable laboratory support is a tremendous blessing and makes me a better dentist."
Additionally, Dr. Gray's grandfather, John R. Gray, D.M.D., was a member of the first graduating class from the UAB School of Dentistry in 1952. John R. Gray worked intimately with UAB in the 1960s to help pioneer four-handed dentistry. He also owned a private dental practice for 35 years in the Eastwood area of Birmingham.
Dr. Gray's memberships have included the American College of Prosthodontists, the American Academy of Implantology, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Alabama Dental Association, and the Birmingham District Dental Society.
Dr. Gray is excited to offer comprehensive dental treatment to the Birmingham area, striving to change the lives of his patients through improved oral health and rehabilitation. His prosthodontic training focuses on but is not limited to: full mouth reconstruction, esthetic veneers, crown and bridge, implant surgery, implant restorations, removable partials, complete dentures, tempro-mandibular joint disorders, "All on Four" implant restorations, guided Implant surgery planning, inlays and onlays, aesthetic laser gum recontouring and laser tooth whitening.
Dr. Gray and his wife Laura enjoy a personal life in the McCalla and Hoover area with family and friends. They are members of Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church and are actively involved in the community as well.
Dr. Ted grew up with his brother, John, in Birmingham, Alabama. He received a B.S. in biology from Birmingham-Southern College, and graduated from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 2003.
After working for several years as an associate dentist at Oneonta Dental Center, he started McCalla Dental with his brother, John. Their vision was to create a dental practice that would benefit the community and the patients.
Dr. Ted is a member of the Birmingham District Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the Alabama Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Ted is continually studying new methods and techniques in dentistry, focusing on the areas of cosmetic dentistry, including veneers and crowns, and endodontics (root canal therapy).
Dr. Ted lives in the McCalla area with his wife, Karol Poczatek, who is also a recent graduate from the UAB School of Dentistry, with her own dental practice in Pelham, Alabama. They have a young daughter and enjoy traveling and gardening.
Dr. John grew up with his brother, Ted, in the Birmingham area. He graduated summa cum laude from Birmingham-Southern College with a degree in computer science before receiving a D.M. D. with honors from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, where he also met and married fellow graduate, Dr. Wendy. He received a Certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry from the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry in 2005.
In 2005, Dr. John moved to the McCalla area, and started McCalla Dental with his brother, Ted. Their vision was to create a dental practice that would benefit the community and the patients.
Dr. John is a member of the Birmingham District Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the Alabama Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. John's professional interests in dentistry include blending technology with patient care and comfort. He continually seeks advances in dental technology to make sure we are providing our patients the best in care for services such as digital radiography, dental anesthesia, and digital impressions. Additionally, Dr. John is one of a few General Practitioners who has achieved Preferred status with Invisalign.
Dr. John and his wife, Dr. Wendy, both work at McCalla Dental. They have two beautiful daughters at home. Dr. John enjoys spending his free time outdoors, usually in the backyard gardening and landscaping.
From a military family, Dr. Wendy was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and raised in Biloxi MS. She graduated from University of South Alabama in 1998 with a B.S. in Biomedical Science, and from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 2004, where also met and married Dr. John.
Dr. Wendy received a Certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry from the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry in 2005. She and Dr. John returned to the Birmingham area, were she went into private practice with Dr. Kuntal Pandit.
In 2007 and 2008, Dr. Wendy assumed the practices of two retiring Bessemer dentists, Dr. Robert Phillips and Dr. Earl Pate.
In 2009, Dr. Wendy joined McCalla Dental as an Associate Dentist.
Dr. Wendy is a member of the Birmingham District Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the Alabama Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry. She has continued with many advanced technical classes, focusing on senior dental care issues such as dentures, periodontal disease, and dry mouth syndrome. She loves educating patients to empower them to make good decisions concerning their oral health, and believes that good oral health contributes to one's physical and emotional health.
When she isn't working, Dr. Wendy enjoys vegetable gardening and cooking, especially with her husband and her daughters. She loves art and design, and enjoys creative things like cake decorating and fingerprint art.
